For two years, the overvoltage / undervoltage protection of the AC output side has become the most problematic project. Why is there always problems?

It is understood that the overvoltage / undervoltage protection AC output side, that is the solar power station supply power to the power grid through the solar inverter, when the inverter AC output terminal voltage exceeds (or below) the allowable voltage range of the power grid, the inverter will automatically disconnect the AC contactor, stop power supply, and also issued a warning signal. The function of the inverter is very obvious, that is, to ensure the safe power supply of the solar power station on the premise of guaranteeing the stability. For the power grid, a large number of access over the allowable voltage range is likely to cause damage to the stability of the grid. Because of the unstable characteristics of solar power station, the performance of inverter’s output voltage and undervoltage protection determines the grid friendliness of solar power generation, and its importance is self-evident.

The over voltage protection value of the solar panel power inverter is 195.5V-253V, and it is not a very difficult technical standard to realize. But why has it become a heavy disaster for solar inverter products for several years? This may be related to the uneven level of domestic power grid construction. For example, there are some problems in some parts of China, such as insufficient distribution transformer capacity, too large load / too small load, resulting in high voltage range of 270V and low 180V. In order to adapt to the complex conditions of these areas, some businesses may broaden the over voltage protection range of the inverter to enhance the adaptability of the inverter.

In addition, in the era of power generation, a wider range of over voltage and undervoltage protection will enable the power station to incorporate more power into the power grid, which will increase the power plant benefits. But if all solar power stations ignore the stability of the grid and frantically output the power beyond the safe range, this will inevitably damage the stability of the power grid and bring potential security risks. Once the stability of the power grid is affected by the access of solar power, the power limit will be inevitable.
